Transporting your sword

SWORD TRANSPORT
IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC

The definition of a bladed weapon (sword) is not specified or restricted under Czech law. When transporting or carrying a sword in public, it is recommended to keep it in a solid case—whether it is a hard case, or a faux leather or leather bag, such as the one you usually use in your dojo.

SWORD CARRYING
RULES

We recommend following Japanese etiquette: outside the training hall, the sword should be carried in a way that it is not visibly exposed. Practicing with a sharp sword is also not restricted in the Czech Republic. The organizer recommends considering your level of experience and depth of practice before training with a live blade.

CHECK-IN AT
PRAGUE AIRPORT

Prague Airport does not require any special documents for arrival or check-in with a sword. However, we highly recommend checking with your airline regarding the transport of the sword to the event location. If the airline permits transport, the check-in process at Prague Airport is smooth. Your luggage containing the sword will be processed exclusively at the oversized baggage counter, both upon arrival and departure.

Based on personal experience, we kindly ask for your patience and understanding in advance, should you encounter unhelpful or unfriendly behavior from airport staff at the oversized baggage department—especially upon arrival.
